The 3rd English Exam for 2nd year 2024.

Part One: Reading & Interpreting
Read the passage carefully then answer the questions.

-At tow minutes to noon on 1 September 1923, the great clock in Tokyo stopped. Tokyo Bay shook as is a huge rug had been pulled from under it. Towering above the bay, 4,000-metre Mount Fuji stood above a deep trench in the sea. It was from this trench that the earthquake came, at a magnitude of 8.3 on Richter scale.

-The sea drew back for few moments. Then, a huge wave swept over the city. Boats were carried inland, and buildings and people were dragged out to sea. The tremors dislodged part( of a hillside which gave way , brushing trains, statoins and bodies into the water below. Large sections of the sea-bed sank 400 metres; the land rose by 250 metres in some places and sank in others. Three massive shocks wrecked the cities of Tokyo and Yokohama and, during the next six hours, there were 171 aftershoks.

-The casualties were enormous, but there were also some lucky survivors. The most remarkable was a woman who was having a bath in her room on Tokyo Grand Hotel. As the hotel collapsed, she and her bath gracefully descended to the street, leaving both her and the bathwater intact.

Bac exam 2024 2024.

This exam I suggested for my third year foreign ******** pupils. I want you dear participants to go through it and make your comments on the degree of difficulty, congruency with the syllabus and length. what’s more I’d like to receive any constructive comment as to improve it and suggest it for my pupils again.

this is elaborated by Mr. Djermoune from Bejaia.

Sbject

Read the text carefully then do the activities.

Dear Sir;
I feel I must protest about the lunch we had at your restaurant on Thursday 17th May. Unfortunately, both the food and the service were not satisfactory.
To begin with, the dishes we ordered were not tasty because of heavy seasoning. There was also so much salt and pepper on the food that it was impossible to eat the whole meal. Furthermore, your advertisement was misleading as there were only two vegetarian dishes on the menu.
I must also point out that none of the dessert we ordered was fresh. In fact, they smelled bad and the “delicious Italian cakes” were stale. As if this was not bad enough, the prices were far from reasonable and contrary to what was stated in your advertisement; we found everything outrageously priced.
To make matters worse, the air-conditioning was out of order. As a result, we felt hot and extremely uncomfortable.
Finally, when we asked for the bill, we were surprised about the staff’s ignorance of the 10% discount for group bookings. Again, this was something highlighted in your advertisement. We could have made a fuss about it, but we decided not to.
Considering all the above, I believe I am entitled to a partial refund. I am confident that this matter will receive your prompt attention. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
James Kent

3 AS Education Exam 2024.

The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria
Ministry of National Education Second Term Examination
Third Year Duration: 2 hours

Read the text carefully then do the activities.
Once, Mr Meadowes had himself been a teacher. Thirty years in the classroom, in the smell of chalk and cabbage and mown grass and socks and wood-polish. Of course, in this year of 2023 there were no more teachers. After all, computers were far safer and more efficient, but the school still looked so familiar, so real in the sweet October light that he could almost ignore the chain- link barriere that reared mightily above the little wall and ran all the way around the playing field, the lightning-bolt electrification symbol and the lettered warning school -no unaccompanied adults- bolted to the post.
But Mr Meadowes was remembering his own classrooms; the scarred
wooden floors stained purple with ink and polished to a type of paint by
generations of young feet; the passageways soft with blackboard dust; the flying
staircases of books, words and drawings on desks with their secret slogans, tne crushed work sheets, confiscated cigarettes, copied homework mysterious messages, and other forgotten arte facts of that lost and long-ago state of grace.
Of course, it wasn’t really like that: nowadays each pupil had a workstation ; with a plastic desktop, a voice-activated monitor, an electronic pen and a computer-generated private teacher with an ageless and intelligent face ( new type of device selected from thousands of designs by the Centre for Generational awareness to inspire confidence and respect).
All lessons were taken from the workstation-even practicals were performed under virtual conditions. In the barbaric old days children had been acid-burned in chemistry, had their bones broken in various sport, skinned their knees in asphalts playgrounds and were intimidated and victimized in countless ways by their human teachers nowadays, all children were safe. hello dear fellow teachers of english! here is a subject I submitted to my pupils. I would be grateful to any one who can bring any fruitful comment on the exam sheet in all aspects. thank you. do not hesitate to sya what your thoughts are. I’ll accept them warmheartedly.

Elaborated by a colleague of yours from Bejaia, Mr. Djermoune H.

Tichy high school Stream: Foreign ********s Academic Year: 2024/ English First Term Exam
Duration: Two Hours Read the text carefully then do the activities

Martin Luther King is a black American. His father was the minister of a leading black church in Atlanta, Georgia. Martin Luther King was fairly well off. Young Martin did not know poverty as a boy, but he knew the personal meaning of segregation. After being graduated at Morehouse College in Atlanta, he continued his studies in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. He felt it was his duty to do something to end segregation and poverty too.
In the 1950’s and 1960’s, he became the best known civil-rights leader in the U.S.A. He was arrested 29 times for protesting against the unfair treatment of his people. Though the harsh treatment, he believed in love and non-violence. King drew his ideas form Mahatma Gandhi who had led India’s struggle for independence in the 1930’s and 1940’s.
The year 1963 was a special one for black Americans. It was the 100th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. The first end toward ending slavery. Yet, 100 years after freedom, black people still suffered from segregation and injustices. On August 28th, 193, the March on Washington took place. 250,000 people wound around the reflecting pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Martin Luther King spoke of how black people had carried in their hearts the hope of full equality. “Now was the time,” he said, “for America to fulfil the promise of democracy.” “I have a dream,” he added, “that the black children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the ******* of their character.”
A year after, King was awarded a high honour, the Nobel Prize, for his civil-rights work. In 1968, King broadened his concern. He organised a ‘Poor People Campaign’ to attack poverty. On April 4th, King was killed. After his murder, some people said that love and forgiveness were useless against hatred. But others remembered his dream. For them, the fulfilment of that dream remained as the work of all Americans.
