Crusades

Crusades were Christian military expeditions organised mainly to recapture Palestine durring the Middle Ages . Palestine, also called the Holy Land, was important to Christians because it was the region where Jesus Christ had lived . The crusaders, who came from Western Europe were expanding its economy and increasing its military forces .
Kings , nobles and thousands of knights, peasants, and towns people took part in the crusades . They had two stated goals , to gain permanent control of the Holy Land and to protect the Bysantine Empire . But many crusaders also fought to increase their power, territory, and riches . Large numbers of poor people joined the expeditions simply to escape their hard lives .
The crusaders won some battles , but their victories had no permanent effect. However , the crusades increased already existing contacts between the East and the West .The crusaders were originally called armed pilgrimates . How the crusades began .
In the 600’s, Arab Muslims conquered Palestine, and most of the new Arab rulers allowed the Christians to visit the Holy places. However when the Turks crushed the Byzantines, in 1071, and became Muslims they made it difficult for Christian pilgrims to reach these places .
In 1095, the Byzantine Emperor asked Urban 2, Pope of the Roman Catholic Church , for assistance to fight the Turks. He agreed, he wanted to defend Christianity against Muslims and to recover holy places. Urban 2 gave a sermon urging European Christians to recapture holy land from Muslims, thus thousand of people joined the cause.

Arabic( Islamic) Influence on Medicine

Arabic, or what is called Islamic, science in terms of ******** in space and time denotes the scientific activities of individuals who lived in a region that might extended chronologically from the eighth century A .D .to the beginning of the modern era, and geographically from the Iberian Peninsula and north Africa to the Indus valley and from the southern Arabia to the Casian Sea that is , the region covered for most of that period by what we call Islamic Civilization, and in which the results of the activities referred to, were for the most part expressed in the Arabic ********.
The West has not not done justice to the influence of the Muslims on the historical development of medicine. Western writers have given little prominence to Islamic Scientific and intellectual contributions to this field. But the fact is that the Muslims carried the torch of science and thought in an age when no other civilization was able of doing so. At one time, learning was regarded as heresy, and the Eastern Christian Church persecuted all scientists. They, fleeing from persecution, found no refuge but the Islamic leaders, which look them in and acquired from them the scientific heritage of the time .They were given a great deal of veneration and respect by the Muslims, whoendeavoured to ensure for them a congenial atmosphere in which to work and to develop learning .That was the beginning of a universal cultural revolution which enlightened the ancient world, and which the West later embraced, inheriting from the Muslims theirscientific and intellectual achievements.

subjects of english 2024.

Bribery is the crime of giving or receiving something of value to influence official action. Both the
person giving and receiving the bribe are guilty of bribery.
Bribery is illegal for two reasons : firstly, it usually involves a public official using his or her office for
personal gain. Secondly, it can cause officials to make unfair decisions that affect citizens. Bribery is a
very old crime. There is evidence of bribery dating back more than 4,000 years.
Usually, a person who bribes a public official is paying to get special treatment. This special treatment
can come in many forms.for example, a company might bribe an official to win a government contract.
No one knows how often people commit bribery, but many experts believe that most people who bribe
officials are never caught.

A DIVIDED WORLD

The colonial world is a world cut in two. In the colonies , it is the policeman and the
soldier who are the spokesmen of the settler and his rule of oppression. By their
immediate presence and direct action, they maintain contact with the native and advise
him by means of weapons not to budge. They speak the ******** of the pure force.
The zone where the natives live is opposed to the zone inhabited by the settlers. The
settlers’ town is strongly built and brightly lit. The settlers’ feet are never visible, except
perhaps in the sea ; but there, you are never close enough to see them. The settlers’ town
is a town of white people, of foreigners. It is a well-fed and an easy going town.
The town belonging to the colonized people, or at the native town, the negro village,
the medina, the reservation, is a place of evil reputation, a world without spaciousness.
They are born there and will die there, it matters little where, nor how. The native town is
a hungry town, starved of bread, of meat, of shoes, of coal, of light.
The colonized man is an envious man for he always dreams of being in the settler’s
place, to sit at the settler’s table and to sleep in his comfortable bed. And this, the settler
knows it very well.

Topic two : Why is education important in the development of a nation?

The most frequent criticism of the Englishman made by men of many countries, turns
on his frigidity and rigidity, a criticism that surprises the Englishman because he is not
aware of anything that justifies it. His exterior reserve often gives an impression of a
cold temperament, and no indication of the rich warm character that it covers. Far from
being rigid and stiff, he is highly emotional, and at the same time ashamed of showing
emotion. He is extremely sensitive, but his education has taught him that to be too
sensitive is to be weak.
He is naturally warm- hearted and at the same time afraid of what he thinks vulgarity
of exuberance. He wants to be liked, but will never show that he wants to be liked. He is
sentimental but will not admit to being guided by sentiment, and so he goes about in
armour, and in the presence of strangers, he rarely relaxes and lays it aside. When he does
eventually lay aside his armour, then you meet the real Englishman, genial, generous and
sympathetically adaptable. He does not like the men of some warmer countries, gives his
frienship freely to all who come along, but when he does give it, he gives it with all his
heart.

READ THE TEXT CAREFULLY THEN DO THE ACTIVITIES;
To the editor,
My solution to the problem of discipline in schools would be to bring back the cane.
I can’t understand why it was stopped. If they had known the result when they took the
decision, they would certainly never have stopped it.Obviously, if children are allowed to do
what they like, in schools then the standard of discipline will continue to go down in the
years ahead.
The time to do something about the problem is now , before it is too late. I do not want my
children to suffer because of lack of discipline when they go to school next year, I believe
there should be a return to old methods .I am against children being allowed to be rude to
teachers.
Believe me, when I was a child, when we misbehaved we were punished. It seems that
today things are different in schools. I hope your paper continues to support the reintroduction
of discipline in schools.

Bribery is the crime of giving or receiving something of value to influence official
action. Both the person giving and receiving the bribe are guilty of bribery.
Bribery is illegal for two reasons: Firstly, it usually involves a public official using his or
her office for personal gain. Secondly, it can cause officials to make unfair decision that
affect citizens. Bribery is a very old crime. There is evidence of bribery dating back more
than 4,000 years. Usually, a person who bribes a public official is paying to get special
treatment. This special treatment can come in many forms. For example, a company might
bribe an official to win a government contract.
Bribing a public official is the most common type of bribery. In the United States,
officials convicted of bribery may be fined, removed from office, and sent to prison for up
to 20 years. Commercial bribery, the bribery of owners or employees of private
companies, is also illegal in many places, but it is less commonly punished.
No one knows how often people commit bribery, but many experts believe that most
people who bribe officials are never caught. Bribery is most common in some countries or
parts of countries than in others . Many countries have made it illegal to bribe officials
from other countries.

Corruption is the use and abuse of power for private purposes. These purposes are
general private Personal enrichment or for the benefit of others. It is an illegal practice. It
can affect anyone with a power, whether a politician, an official, an arbitrator or a sport
man, among other examples.
Bribery is to offer money or service to anyone who holds power in exchange for an
indue advantage. The corruption is to accept that money. A classic example is that of a
politician who receives money in his personal capacity or his party on the part of business

that it could hinder economic growth and undermine efforts to establish good governance,
it led to the general degeneration of the social fabric. Obstacle to sustainable development,
corruption can potentially aggravate economic disparities and encourage organized crime.

justice prevail. In recent years, efforts at the international level to fight corruption, encourage
transparency and increase accountability are on the increase, because it includes the cost
