سلام عليكم اخواني ممكن مساعدة في الانجليزية syllable يعني فهموني فيه + كيف تاتي الاسئلة عليه.

كاين 2 انواع من الاسئلة لتخص syllable يقدر على سبيل المثال يقولك وين stressed syllable يعني وين المقطع لفيه الشدة مثلا كلمة mathematics الشدة فيها في ma يعني تروح تسطر على ma
اما السؤال الاخر مثلا يمدلك جدول فيه 3 خانات
الخانة الاولى فيها 1 syllable
والثانية 2 syllables
والثالثة 3 syllables and more
ويمدلك كلمات ويقولك ضعهم في المكان المناسب يعني كل كلمة وشحال فيها من syllable

syllable تحدد عن طريق عدد vowels
يعني لو كاين فالكلمة 1 vowel معناها كاين 1 syllable مثال cat
ملاحظة لما فالكلمة يكون vowel فالاخير لا ينطق ولا يحسب مثال gate هنا كاين 1 syllable لانه e جاي فالاخير ولا ينطق
وتاني لما يكون 2 vowels وراء بعض يتحسبو 1 مثال book هنا كاين 1 syllable ولا play نفس الشيء

الان الكلمات لفيهم 2 syllables مثل poket لما نقسموها الى مقاطع ترجع هكذا po ket
وفيما يخص 3 syllables مثل beautiful لما نقسموها الى مقاطع ترجع هكذا beau ti ful
هي باش تجي ساهلة لازم تكون عندك فكرة على transcription

ic , ics , ical , tion , sion : The stress falls in the penultimate sylable ( befor the last )
يعني كي تخلاص الكلمة بوحدة من هادو تجي نتا من الاخير تاع الكلمة طبعا بعد ما تقسمها و تحسب 1 مبعد 2 الثانية من الاخير هاديك هي stress

و القعدة الثانية :
الكلمات لي تخلاص ب :
cy , ty , phy , gy : The stress falls in the antepenultemate sylable
يعني كي تخلاص الكلمة بوحدة من هادو تزيد دير كيما الاول تقسم مبعد تجي من الاخير و تحسب 1 2 3 الثالثة من الاخير هي stress

ان شاء الله نكون وصلتلك المعلومة و ادا حبيت تفهم اكثر نحن هنا ان شاء الله .

Syllable rules 2024.

Syllable Rules
A syllable is a basic unit of written and spoken ********. It is a unit consisting of uninterrupted sound that can be used to make up words. For example, the word hotel has two syllables: ho and tel.
These will be marked here as in ho/tel.
Counting Syllables
To find the number of syllables in a word, use the following steps:
1. Count the vowels in the word.
2. Subtract any silent vowels, (like the silent e at the end of a word, or the second
vowel when two vowels are together in a syllable)
3. Subtract one vowel from every diphthong (diphthongs only count as one vowel
sound.)
4. The number of vowels sounds left is the same as the number of syllables.
The number of syllables that you hear when you pronounce a word is the same as the number of
vowels sounds heard. For example: The word came has 2 vowels, but the e is silent, leaving one vowel sound and one syllable.
. The word outside has 4 vowels, but the e is silent and the ou is a diphthong which counts as only one sound, so this word has only two vowel sounds and therefore, two syllables.
Six Kinds of Syllables
There are six different kinds of syllables in English:
1. Closed Syllables: A closed syllable has one and only one vowel, and it ends in
a consonant. Examples include in, ask, truck, sock, stretch, twelfth, and on.
2. Open Syllables: An open syllable has one and only one vowel, and that vowel occurs at the end of the syllable. Examples include no, she, I, a, and spry.
3. Silent-E Syllables: A silent-e syllable ends in an e, has one and only one
consonant before that e, and has one and only one vowel before that consonant.
Examples include ate, ice, tune, slope, strobe, and these.
4. Vowel Combination Syllables: A vowel combination syllable has a cluster of two or three vowels or a vowel-consonant unit with a sound or sounds particular to that unit. Examples include rain, day, see, veil, pie, piece, noise, toy, cue, and true.
5. Vowel-R Syllables: A vowel-r syllable is one which includes one and only one
vowel followed by an r, or one vowel followed by an r which is followed by a
silent e, or a vowel combination followed by an r. Examples include car, or, care,
ire, air, and deer.
6. Consonant-L-E Syllables: In these syllables, a consonant is followed by le. The
vowel sound in these syllables is the schwa sound that occurs before the l.
Examples include -ble, -cle, -dle, -fle, and -gle.
Dividing Words Into S
There are four ways to split up a word into its syllables:
1. Divide between two middle consonants.
Split up words that have two middle consonants. For example:
hap/pen, bas/ket, let/ter, sup/per, din/ner, and Den/nis. The only exceptions are the consonant
digraphs. Never split up consonant digraphs as they really represent only one sound. The exceptions
are "th", "sh", "ph", "th", "ch", and "wh".

2. Usually divide before a single middle consonant.
When there is only one syllable, you usually divide in front of it, as in: "o/pen", "i/tem", "e/vil", and "re/port". The only exceptions are those times when the first syllable has
an obvious short sound, as in "cab/in".
3. Divide before the consonant before an "-le" syllable.
When you have a word that has the old-style spelling in which the "-le" sounds like "-el", divide before the consonant before the "-le". For example: "a/ble", "fum/ble", "rub/ble" "mum/ble" and "thi/stle". The only exception to this are "ckle" words like "tick/le".
4. Divide off any compound words, prefixes, suffixes and roots which have vowel sounds.
Split off the parts of compound words like "sports/car" and "house/boat". Divide off prefixes such at
"un/happy", "pre/paid", or "re/write". Also divide off suffixes as in the words "farm/er", "teach/er",
"hope/less" and "care/ful". In the word "stop/ping", the suffix is actually "-ping" because this word
follows the rule that when you add "-ing" to a word with one syllable, you double the last consonant
and add the "-ing".

1. Two-Syllable nouns and adjectives

In most two syllable nouns and adjectives, the first syllable takes on the stress.

Examples:

2. Two-Syllable verbs and prepositions

In most two syllable verbs and prepositions, the stress is on the second syllable.

Examples:

reLAX
recEIVE
diRECT
aMONG
aSIDE
beTWEEN

More about word stress on two-syllable words

About 80% or so of two-syllable words get their stress on the first syllable.
There are of course, exceptions to this rule, but very few nouns and adjectives get stress on their second syllable.
Verbs and prepositions usually get stress placed on the second syllable, but there are exceptions to this too.

3. Three-Syllable words

For three syllable words, look at the word ending (the suffix), using the following as your guide.

4. Words ending in er, ly

For words ending with the suffixes er or ly, the stress is placed on the first syllable.

Examples:

ORder/ORderly
MANage/MANager

5. Words ending in consonants and in y

If there is a word that ends in a consonant or in a y, then the first syllable gets the stress.

Examples:

RARity
OPtimal
GRADient
CONtainer

6. Words with various endings

Take a good look at the list of suffixes below (suffixes are word endings).

Your stress is going to come on the syllable right before the suffix. This applies to words of all syllable lengths.

Examples:

able: ADDable, ARable, DURable
ary: PRIMary, DIary, liBRary
cial: juDIcial, nonSOcial
cian: muSIcian, phySIcian, cliNICian
ery: BAkery, SCENery
graphy: calLIgraphy, bibliOgraphy, stenOgraphy
ial: celesTIal, iniTIal, juDICial
ian: coMEdian, ciVILian, techNIcian
ible: viSIble, terRIble, reSIstible
ic: arCHAic, plaTOnic, synTHEtic
ical: MAgical, LOgical, CRItical
ics: diaBEtics, paediAtrics
ion: classifiCAtion, repoSItion, vegeTAtion
ity: imMUnity, GRAvity, VAnity
ium: HElium, ALUminum, PREmium
imum: MInimum, MAXimum, OPtimum
logy: BIology, CARdiology, RAdiology
tal: caPItal, biCOAstal, reCItal

7. Words ending in ee, ese, ique, ette

Words that use the suffix ee, ese, eer, ique or ette, have the primary stress actually placed on the suffix.

This applies to words of all syllable lengths.

Examples:

ee: agrEE, jamborEE, guarantEE
eer: sightsEER, puppetEER
ese: SiamESE, JapanESE, cheESE
ette: cassETTE, CorvETTE, towelETTE
ique: unIQUE, physIQUE

8. Prefixes

Usually, prefixes do not take the stress of a word.

There are a few exceptions to this rule, however, like: un, in, pre, ex and mis, which are all stressed in their prefix.

Examples:

ex: EXample, EXplanation, EXamine
in: INside, INefficient, INterest
mis: MISspoke, MIStake, MISspelled
pre: PREcede, PREarrange, PREliminary

9. Stress on the second from the end syllable

You put stress on the second syllable from the end of the word, with words ending in ic, sion and tion.

Examples:

iCONic
hyperTENsion
nuTRItion

10. Stress on the third from end syllable

You put stress on the third from end syllable with words that end in cy, ty, phy, gy and al.

Examples:

demoCRAcy
TREAty
geOGraphy
ALlergy
NAUtical

11. Word stress for compound words

A. Compound noun

A compound noun is a noun made out of two nouns in order to form one word. In a compound noun, the first word usually takes on the stress.

Examples:

SEAfood
ICEland
TOOTHpaste

B. Compound adjectives

A compound adjective is an adjective composed of at least two words.

Often, hyphens are used in compound adjectives. In compound adjectives, the stress is placed within the second word.

Examples:

ten-MEter
rock-SOlid
fifteen-MInute

C. Compound verbs

A compound verb is when a subject has two or more verbs. The stress is on the second or on the last part.

Examples:

Matilda loves bread but deTESTS butter.
Sarah baked *****es and ATE them up.
Dogs love to eat bones and love DRINking water.

و ربما البعض لا يعرف الطريقة السهلة في syllable عندما تكون 1 syl او 2 syll او 3 syll او 4 syll……..

مثال عندما يعطى لكم كلمة smashes نحسب عدد pronom

مثل smashes 2 syll

يعني aاو e او i او y ……

و e في الاخير لا تعد يعني لا تحسب معا بقي pronom

او عند التقاء 3 او 4 او 2 pronom تعد واحدة

مثل speak او beautiful ………

beautiful 3 syl

careful 3 syll

concerning the word smashes it contains 1 syllable you know why?because a syllable is a unit of pronounciation uttered without interruption,forming whole or part of a word ,AND USUALLY HAVING ONE VOWEL OR DIPHTONG SOUND optionally surrounded by one or more consonants
the same thing concerning the word careful it contains 2 syllables

و الكلمة فيها مقطعين

نعم فقط كان هناك تناقض في ما قاله حيث قال أن الحرف e لا ينطق و أن كلمة smashes بها مقطعان
